A Coatesville woman is a guest of the county at the Wawaset Hilton after she was allegedly intoxicated while her daughter drove her car … and is also awaiting trial on assault and related charges.
Ofc. Robert Kuech of the Coatesville Police spotted a Dodge Durango driven by the 6 year old daughter of Lakiesha Hogue, 30, of Coatesville. The vehicle was spotted in the area of South 4th Avenue and Walnut Street at around 16:20 Sunday afternoon.
According to police reports, Houge reportedly told officers that she was teaching her daughter how to drive, a claim that is so unbelievable when you consider that the child is 6 years old. The child's aunt showed up on scene and, according to reports, the girl was asked if her mother had made her drive the car. The girl reportedly replied, "Mom made me drive because she was sleepy." Further questioning by the aunt indicated that Houge was allegedly smoking "that stinky stuff" – a suspected allusion to marijuana – to which the girl said yes.
This is not Hogue's first go-round with Coatesville Police.
On November 13, 2007, Cpl. Brandon Harris charged Houge with Criminal Mischief, Accidents Causing Damage to Unattended Vehicles or Property, Failure to Stop and Render Aid, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, 1543-A, and Disorderly Conduct. Charges were dismissed against Houge after a January 30, 2008 preliminary hearing in front of Coatesville District Judge Robert Davis (15-1-03, CR-0000317-07).
On September 18, 2008, Ofc. Sylvester Earle responded to an incident in which Houge was later charged with Simple Assault, Criminal Mischief, Harassment, and Disorderly Conduct. Houge later pled guilty to a summary charge of Disorderly Conduct in front of Judge Davis on November 18, 2008 (15-1-03, CR-0000267-08).
On March 23, Ofc. Earle charged Hogue with Aggravated Assault, Obstruction of Law or Other Governmental Function, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Harassment. She was arraigned that night by Valley District Judge Grover Koon and released after posting 10 percent of $2,500 bail. At her preliminary hearing in front of Senior Judge Davis, Hogue was ordered held for trial on all counts; trial had been scheduled for this past Tuesday in front of Common Pleas Judge Anthony Sarcione, however, with the new arrest, her case was continued to the trial term starting October 12 (CP-15-CR-0001504-2009).
Houge was arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Corrupting the Morals of a Minor, REAP, and Permitting Violation of Title. She was arraigned Sunday night by the Hon. Gwenn S. Knapp (D – 15-1-04) and was committed to CCP in lieu of 10 percent of $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday in front of Senior Judge Davis, presiding at Coatesville (15-1-03, CR-0000249-09).
It looks like we have our clubhouse leader for the "Knucklehead Mother of the Year" award.
